Useful Terms to Know in Cosplay
Fan Convention (Con) - (also known as a con or fan meeting) is an event in which fans of a particular topic gather to participate and hold programs and other events, and to meet experts, famous personalities, and each other. Some also incorporate commercial activity.
Cosplay - a blend word of "costume play", is an activity and performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character.
CNC Machine - are computer-controlled machines used for cutting, carving, or engraving materials. Types of CNC machines include routers, mills, lathes, lasers, and plasma cutters.
Cutting Machine - are CNC machines used for cutting out parts of an artical of material. There are hobby home machines like the Cricut, Silhouette Cameo, and Brother ScanNCut. There are also machines for mass production.
Lacefront Wigs - these wigs give the most natural looking hairline. Lacefront have a nearly invisible lace material that the hairs are tied to. They are generally more expensive than other types of wigs but if you need a cosplay with a natural looking hairline they are your best choice.
PPE - is short for Personal protective equipment. PPE is protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garments or equipment designed to protect the wearer's body from injury or infection. The hazards addressed by protective equipment include physical, electrical, heat, chemical, biohazards, and airborne particulate matter.
Synthetic Hair Wigs - tradtional wigs are made of actual human hair. In cosplay though often you want a color, style, or both that is extremely unnatural. This is where synthetic hair wigs come in. The hair fibers are made of synthetic materials such as kanekalon, toyokalon, monofilament, and futura. Many of these wigs are heat resistant and can be styled and molded however you want. They often come in large variety of unnatural colors.
Thermoplastic - or thermosoftening plastic, is any plastic polymer material that becomes pliable or moldable at a certain elevated temperature and solidifies upon cooling.
Worbla - a brand of thermoplastic modelling materials, popular among cosplayers for creating costumes, armor and props. The name of the material is that of Worbla AG, a former synthetics manufacturer in Worblaufen, Switzerland.
